Announcement from Utilities Committee: Alabama Power to refund $100 million to customers
Alabama Power has announced they will be refunding $100 million to customers following a surplus in fuel costs for the year.
The utility company said that customers had already seen a roughly 3 percent decrease in their rates this year due to the pandemic and lower fuel costs.
Each customer should expect to see a $25 credit on their October bill.
The refunds were unanimously approved by the Alabama Public Service Commission earlier this week.
Council President Pro Tem Wardine Alexander applauded the move and said it comes at a time when residents need help due to the public health crisis.
“Were at a point in history where a record number of people are out of work through no fault of their own,” Alexander said. “Through my position on the Birmingham City Council’s Utility Committee we are going to continue to work with our residents and utility providers to ensure people can keep these services turned on as we navigate through this crisis.”
