The Council unanimously approved a joint services agreement between the City of Birmingham and the City of Vestavia for the construction of a roundabout and other roadway improvements at the intersection of Blue Lake Drive, Cahaba Heights Road, and Sicard Hollow Road.
Councilor Hunter Williams, who represents the district where this project is located, applauded the move and thanked the administration for their support.
“This is an intersection that I frequently get calls about from residents and it has been an issue for quite some time — at least the six years that I have been in office,” Councilor Williams said. “This is another example of the positive impact that regional cooperation can have on our communities; when we are able to work with other local municipalities to improve public safety and infrastructure.”

ITEM 9. An Ordinance authorizing the Mayor to execute a Joint Services Agreement, pursuant §11–102–1, et seq., Code of Alabama, between the City of Birmingham, Jefferson County and the City of Vestavia Hills for the purpose of making certain improvements to the intersection of Blue Lake Drive, Cahaba Heights Road, and Sicard Hollow Road to include construction of a roundabout, installation of roadway lighting, drainage structures, and associated roadway reconfiguration. Vestavia and Jefferson County will share the costs of the project, jointly bid the project and Jefferson County is designated as the joint purchasing or bidding agent. Birmingham will not be responsible for providing any funding for the construction of this project. The County will assume responsibility for the management of the Project.
HAPPENING TOMORROW: Councilor Clinton Woods invites residents to Huffman High School Jersey Retirement Ceremony for Stanley Robinson
On Wednesday, February 7th, Huffman High School will be honoring the life and legacy of Stanley Robinson, the former Mr. Basketball in Alabama who passed away in 2020 at the age of 32.
The jersey retirement ceremony will take place at Huffman High School at 6:30 p.m. Following the ceremony, the Vikings Boys Basketball team will be playing Gardendale High School for the Area 11 Championship.
Robinson played college basketball for the UConn Huskies and went on to play most of his professional career in South America.
Councilor Clinton Woods, who represents the district, said this will be a moment to reflect on the life of a young man who helped lay a foundation for the school’s athletic programs that brought home the 6A Boys Basketball State Championship trophy in 2020.
“Stanley Robinson was a pillar in this community and was an example to all the young people here — showing them what can be accomplished when they set goals for themselves and execute that at the highest level,” Councilor Woods said. “It’s important for us to take a moment and reflect on his life and the impact he made on this community.”
