Here are a few of the main item the Birmingham City Council approved the October 8th 2019 Meeting:

ITEM 1

The Birmingham City Council approved changes to aspects of the City’s zoning ordinance that would revise density requirements, modify certain permitted uses in industrially-zoned areas, revise cemetery requirements to match Alabama State Code (now requires cemetery owners to come before the Birmingham City Council, in addition to the Zoning Board of Adjustments, to initiative the process for developing a new cemetery), amend accessory structures to places of worship, and modify spacing requirements for multi-family student housing.

ITEM 24

The Birmingham City Council approved an Agreement with Lawson State Community College that would allow for Lawson State EMT and Paramedic Students to volunteer with the Birmingham Fire and Rescue service in order to learn professional skills for their future careers.

ITEMS 26 and 27

The Birmingham City Council approved two Grants Agreements with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, totaling $122,500 for the development of historic structure reports for 16th Street Baptist Church parsonage, the Bethel Baptist Church and Parsonage, and St. Paul United Methodist Church.

ITEM 66

The Birmingham City Council voted to set a Public Hearing for November 5th to consider a proposed rezoning in the Forest Park Neighborhood that would allow for the construction of a new 4 story residential apartment building on the corner of 42nd street and 3rd Avenue south.
