Item 14

An Ordinance “TO FURTHER AMEND THE CAPITAL FUND BUDGET” for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019, by transferring $122,110.11 from Bridlewood Ditch, $535,489.94 from Lawson Road Storm Sewer Improvements, $114,440.92 from Alabama Avenue Drainage, $456,982.80 from Killough Springs Road Drainage, $65,000.00 from 1538 Pearson Avenue Drainage, $103,078.02 from 27th Ave North Culvert Replacement, $61,615.63 from 9th Avenue North-Uptown Drainage Engineering Design, $50,000.00 from 10th Ave So to 26th Street Drainage and appropriating $1,508,717.42 to Drainage Improvements.

Each of the drainage improvement projects listed in this item had monies left over after it was completed. Now, these monies will be pooled together, and allocated specifically for future drainage improvement projects throughout Birmingham.

Item 21

A Resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute and deliver an agreement with, pursuant to Green Life Lawn Service LLC, §11–40- 1, §11–47–130, §22–3–11, and §38–2–9, Code of Alabama 1975, in the sum of $2,500.00 to provide lawn care services surrounding the neighborhood sign at the entrance of the Huffman Neighborhood in the City, said funds to come from the Huffman Neighborhood Association Fund.

This local, small business was performing lawn care services in neighborhoods around Birmingham, and was recommended by the Huffman Neighborhood Association to provide services around their neighborhood sign. Each of Birmingham’s 99 Neighborhood Associations received funding from the City of Birmingham, and each has funds that have accrued in their accounts over the years. The Huffman Neighborhood Association’s Community Resource Officer referred this item to the Office of the City Attorney, who submitted this item for professional services to the City Council, and the item was recommended by the Mayor.

Item 30

A Resolution recognizing and authorizing participation by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service with the American Red Cross “Sound the Alarm” project.

After a presentation by a representative from the American Red Cross, which outlined the organization’s efforts to install thousands of fire alarms in homes across Alabama, the City Council passed this item, authorizing the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service to participate in the American Red Cross’s

“Sound the Alarm” project, which will begin in Pratt City on October 20, 2018 and will continue in other areas identified with high risks of fire, injury and death by the Red Cross “Sound the Alarm” project and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.
