Here are a few of the main items the Birmingham City Council approved at the November 19th 2019 Meeting:

Items 7–16

The Birmingham City Council authorized the removal of ten inoperable motor vehicles that have been deemed by the City to be public nuisances at various locations throughout Birmingham. If you notice an abandoned car that you believe to be a public nuisance, you can report it to the City’s 3–1–1 call center. After the car is reported, City inspectors will come record it and: -Within two weeks, a letter will be sent to the vehicle owner. If the owner does not respond, they will be summoned to Birmingham’s Municipal Court within 30 days. If the owner fails to respond, or does not appear in court, another letter will be sent giving them an additional 30 days before the City Council approves the towing of the car. For more information, please call the City of Birmingham’s Department of Public Works at 205 254 2061

Item 17

The Birmingham City Council approved an Agreement with Jefferson County for maintenance and repair of portions of Barber Motorsports Parkway. Under the Agreement, the City would provide management of vegetation growing along the road, and the County would be responsible for any repair, resurfacing, re-striping, or other maintenance of the roadway and ditches in the right-of-way.

Item 20

The Birmingham City Council approved an Agreement with Urban Impact for the organization to host the annual Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival, to host a lecture and concert series every Tuesday in October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to host a year-end conversation and celebration with stakeholders of the Historic Fourth Avenue District to educate people about current and future plans for the district.
