And here are a few of the main items the Birmingham City Council approved at the November 26th 2019 Meeting:

Items 29, 31, and 32

  • The Birmingham City Council approved several funding transfers for infrastructure upgrades:
  • $661,000 of available funds for repairs at Fire Stations 13, 19, and 24
  • $299,978.00 to Mondo Track Repairs at the Birmingham Crossplex $36,440.26 to Natatorium Improvement/Equipment
  • $62,000.00 to Bill Harris Arena Locker Room Renovation
  • $29,181.74 to Crossplex Repairs
  • $25,000.00 to Woodward Park Renovations playground and fencing around baseball field as well as additional upgrades

Item 36

The Birmingham City Council approved an Agreement with the Alabama High School Athletic Association for the new Protective Stadium to join a 3-stadium rotation with Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa and Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn to host the Super 7 Football Championships. Under this Agreement, Protective Stadium will host the championships in years 2021, 2024, 2027, and in 2030.

Item 61

The Birmingham City Council voted to set a Public Hearing for December 17th to consider the designation of Five Points South as an Entertainment District, which would allow for certain “open carry” provisions for alcoholic beverages, subject to the City’s regulations. This could be the 3rd Entertainment District in the City of a current allotment of 5, according to State Law.
