Here are a few of the main items the Birmingham City Council approved at the November 5th 2019 Meeting:

Items 1 and 2

After a public hearing, the Birmingham City Council voted to approve a rezoning in the Forest Park/South Avondale Neighborhood to allow for the construction of a new 4-story residential apartment building on the corner of 42nd street south and 3rd avenue south.

Item 6

The Birmingham City Council voted to approve A vote to transfer $28,000 of available funds to make the new Wylam Library currently under construction ADA accessible.

Items 10–13

The Birmingham City Council approved 4 ordinances to change the start time of four Regularly Scheduled City Council meetings in 2020 from 9:30am to 5:30pm to allow for accessibility to local government. The dates for those meetings would be March 31st, June 30th, September 29th, and December 29th.

Item 17

The Birmingham City Council approved an agreement with the owners of Village Market in East Lake to make substantial improvements to their grocery store, including upgrading refrigeration and point of sale equipment, installing new shelving, and providing additional security. The City would provide $865,000 for the project, the initial $200,000 coming from the City’s Healthy Food Fund, and the rest coming from sales tax incentives.
