And here are a few of the main items the Birmingham City Council discussed at the February 18th, 2020 meeting:

Item 1 — Withdrawn

A Public Hearing item on a rezoning case in the Echo Highlands Neighborhood in District 1 that would allow for the construction of a new funeral home was withdrawn. The City Council expects the item to appear again in a month, with ample time for a rescheduled public hearing to be advertised.

Some background information on the proposed rezoning:

The Zoning Advisory Committee met at its regularly scheduled meeting on October 15th, 2019 to review the applicant’s rezoning request and voted to Not Recommend approval.

The Planning & Zoning Committee met on October 23rd, 2019 and voted on a 2 month continuance so the applicant could go back to the Neighborhood Association.
The Planning & Zoning Committee met on December 4th, 2019 and voted to recommend approval of the applicant’s request with the following “Q” conditions:

The Birmingham City Council approved Resolutions to set a public hearing for March 17th, 2020 (during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting) to consider rezoning 6 properties to allow for the development of Northside Park, a mixed-used residential and retail project located in and around the former Carraway Hospital Campus in Druid Hills. The properties considered for rezoning are:

Item 48

The Birmingham City Council voted to set a Public Hearing for March 17th to hear feedback on an amendment to the City’s Zoning Ordinance that would allow for parking decks to have ground floor retail, restaurant, or office space in certain districts.
