Council honors life and legacy of George Floyd with a resolution one year after his death

Council President William Parker brought forth a resolution (see below) on Tuesday honoring the life and memory of George Floyd one year after he was murdered.

“It’s impossible to calculate the impact that George Floyd has had on the world in the year that has passed,” President Parker said. “As Dr. King reminds us, ‘The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.’ Together we are stronger, and together we can build the world we want for our children. So let us mourn those that we have lost to these cruel and unjust acts and honor their memory by doing everything we can to build a system that finally fulfills the promise of liberty and justice for all.”

In the months that followed Mr. Floyd’s death, millions of people in countries around the world organized to protest the unjust killing and systemic racism that persists in America. Tuesday’s resolution will highlight the role that Mr. Floyd has played in the continued fight for civil rights.
