Council President Parker announces breast cancer awareness campaign for Legion Field
For the month of October, pink ribbons will adorn the turf at Birmingham’s Legion Field in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Council President William Parker, who chairs the Parks and Recreation Committee, believes it’s important for the City to raise awareness for an issue that impacts so many people.
“As elected leaders, it’s our responsibility to help raise awareness for an illness that has, in one way or another, certainly impacted a majority of people here in Birmingham. Most of us know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer,” Parker said. “We want to help bring people together and fight this head on.”
Parker said the City will continue to roll out programing related to breast cancer awareness along with the painting of Legion Field which was completed earlier this week.
There will be two games this weekend at the historic stadium: Ramsay High School versus Carver High School on Friday and UAB will play University of Texas at San Antonio at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
