This Saturday, Birmingham City Councilor Crystal Smitherman will be spearheading a box lunch giveaway in conjunction with a voter registration drive at the Cooper Green Park Recreation Center. Smitherman has partnered with the Metro Birmingham NAACP who will be on site to assist residents who need to update their voter registration status.

The event is being held at the Cooper Green Park Recreation Center on Saturday, May 8, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Since stepping into office, Councilor Smitherman has been committed to increasing voter participation, not just in District 6, but across the entire city.

“I think as residents of Birmingham, Alabama, we have a moral obligation to make sure the people who live here are exercising their right to vote on a regular basis,” Smitherman said. “We stand on the shoulders of those who marched before us here in Birmingham so that we can cast our ballots. I’m so glad to be partnering with the NAACP to help people better understand the entire voting process and make it more accessible.”

Box lunches will be provided for those in attendance while supplies last.
