Mobile COVID-19 testing site coming to Central Park neighborhood on Thursday
On Monday, the University of Alabama at Birmingham announced plans to launch a mobile COVID-19 testing site this week at Central Park Christian High School on Thursday (located in the Central Park neighborhood).
The testing will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and residents are encouraged to call UAB’s dedicated line to speak to a healthcare professional and schedule an appointment at the site. That number to call is 205–975–2819.
Representatives with UAB believe they will be able to administer up to 100 tests a day at the mobile facility. The goal is to reach communities that may not have reliable transportation options. Councilor Steven Hoyt, who represents the district, said this is much needed and would like to see even more testing become available.
“People are dying,” Hoyt said. “This virus has been especially deadly among African American communities that have been historically underserved from a healthcare standpoint. We want every single person in our city to have access to a test, and this is a step in that direction.”
On Monday, the Alabama Department of Public Health announced that only one percent of the state’s population has been tested.
